Rendering for DVD architect?

I have this video clip that is 1:45 minutes in length that was shot by a friend in 30 fps, when I rendered it as MainConcept mpeg2 with DVD architect NTSC Video Stream it does not include the audio. So should I adjust the settings to include the audio or does the audio get rendered seprately?

I renderd a test version to include audio and the file size is 4.5 gig but when I drop it in DVD architect I don't have enough space to make the DVD because the file size on the disc jumps to 5.2 gig. Does DVD Architect add 1 + gig worth of Index data or am I doing something wrong?

MPEG-2 renders will not include audio. Audio must be rendered separately. Save yourself some time and render it as DVD-Architect compatible AC-3.

That could be your size problem, too -- I don't know for sure, but try the separate audio and video streams and see if it stays within limits.

Remember, though, that a 4.7 GB DVD doesn't actually have that much space available for content.

Re: Rendering for DVD architect?

in other words 1 dvd is actually 4,400,000MB or 4.7GB. They are the same. Strange huh.

Re: Rendering for DVD architect?

you can actually render the Mpeg 2 with audio, you need to just change the setting so it includes it. It is better however to render it seperate.

You can drop the movie into DVD architect, and then click Optimize DVD and it will automatically lower the bit rate so it fits onto the disk. A lower bitrate however, does lower the quality.

Your movie should fit. However, the default DVD media setting in DVD architect is 3.7(?) gigs instead of 4.7 so you need to change that and it should fit without having to lower the bitrate.

I did change the setting to include audio and when I open the 4.5 gig mpeg file in Architect, it tells me on the bottom corner that my project is now 5.2 gigs which means it will not fit on a 4.7 disc. What are the advantages of rendering the audio seperately and how is this done?

I'm trying this now, it said my project was at 109% when I started so I lowered the bit rate down a little to get it down to 98%. It has to re compress the video first :( I'll keep you posted. I have a slooow computer so rendering won't be complete for quite some time.

Re: Rendering for DVD architect?

Won't DVD-Architect re-render the MPEG-2 if it has the audio stream (whereas it wouldn't if it was output correctly without the audio stream -- as the default MainConcept for DVD-A is)?

On a really, really long program like what you have, it's best to render (from Vegas) files which DVD-Architect won't have to re-render. If you burn the DVD and then find that you need to make a change to a menu or something, it will have to re-render the WHOLE program again -- whereas the default renders from Vegas (for DVD-Architect) will let you skip that step. VERY worthwile if you have a really long program like you do. Nothing like going through all that and then finding you misspelled a word on a menu screen . . .

(I suspect this is why Jarred said it's better to render audio and video separately.)

I agree 100%, just not sure how to render video and audio seprately.

I'm sorry I meant to say I do use Vegas to render but when I changed the bit rate in Architect, It then wanted to re compress the video.

Select a region equal to the clip you want to make (probably, in this case, your entire video). It's important that you don't touch the region when/after you render your video, because you'll need the same region length to render your audio. (Be sure to check "Render Loop Region Only".) Render the video as you did, withe the MainConcept MPEG-2 and the DVD-Architect NTSC Video Stream. Leave the audio stream out.

Then, go to Render As, select "Dolby Digital AC-3" as your choice. If you're just making a stereo DVD, the default settings are fine.

Render under the same filename as the video.

I will try this, just wondering if there will be a difference in file size rendering the audio seperately as aposed including the audio durring render.

Re: Rendering for DVD architect?

no there wont be a difference in file size, as DVDa will strip the mpeg of the audio and put it in its own file.. so you end up with an audio and a video file no matter what you do.

Re: Rendering for DVD architect?

Seems to me I read on the Sony forums about this same problem with project size. But it may only be DVD-A 2 thats having this problem.

David,
Say you have a 40min Wedding with 2 ch stereo. Whats the best way to burn this to DVDA2. Its was shot in 24pa. I Highlighted the entire wedding on the timeline and renderd it. Havent goten to that part in the Vegas book on this yet.
Man the Douglas Spotted Eagle book is as thick as a bible, but so far it has made sense. Thanks ..

I just picked up my copy this weekend. Lots of good reading and well worth the $$$. It was cool to see that Rudy Sarzo of Quite Riot contributed to the forward section. He is very cool to chat with and loves his Vegas & Sound Forge software.

I met Rudy on tour a few times and it was him that convinced me to go with Vegas even before I had my DVX. I think I have a pic as well someware. I can't wait to hook up with him again, I gots lots of questions :)
