Rendering error in AE CS3?

Trying to render a three minute project in AE CS3 to .avi file and received the following error message:

"After Effects error: An error occured while writing T(-2147205010) (53:25)". The .avi file is saved on an external USB hard drive with plenty of storage available.


What does this mean and how can I correct the problem?

When you have a problem like this, just paste the error code into Google. That's what I did and I got this:

Says that your settings aren't compatible with your codec. Look up the requirements your codec has. Some of them only like certain aspect ratios or even numbers of pixels and things like that.

Thanks, Andrew. I actually rendered it onto my primary hard drive and it worked fine. Apparently, the USB hard drive wasn't writing files fast enough and stopped the rendering process.
