Rendering 24p advanced in timeline

So i've read a few links already posted in the FCP forum but I haven't seen anyone address this. When I edit my 24p footage on my macbook pro, i must render it before I can make changes, apply filters, watch it, etc. I didnt have to do this with Premier 1.5 on my pc. So i'm thinking, I must be doing something wrong right? After rendering, everything looks great, but even changing the order of my edits on the timeline requires me to render, which is becoming quite a bore. Is this just the way of things or am I doing something else wrong.

pulldown is just like the article http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/24p_in_FCP_nattress.html suggests, 2:3:3:2, just like i would use in Premiere 1.5.

any ideas guys? Is there a thread that's already covered this that I haven't found yet?

Thanks.

if your footage is at 24fps (pulldown removed) and your sequence is at 23.98fps then you shouldn't have to render unless you have filters applied that do not run in realtime.

if your sequence is 29.97fps and your footage is 24fps then rendering is required.

I import my footage into FCP as 24 Advanced Pulldown Removal and I never have to render it before or after applying certain effects.

well, i'll shoot some more and give it a try i guess. I thought that when you capture with the dvx in FCP and you select 2:3:3:2 advanced it would already set your timeline to 23.98 fps, so i dont understand why I'm getting different results than you guys.

Capture and timelien are two distinct issues. Set default sequence to be 23.98. You can change fps for a sequences but only BEFORE you add clips.

Problem solved. I just needed to select "DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown Removal" from the Easy Setup menu. I had no idea there was such a menu under Final Cut Pro. Finally no more rendering!
Thanks for all the help.
