Hi Guys,

I am rendering my project for a short film which is max duration of 7 mins.

Now since the filesize is not exceeding a standard dvd, is it possible to burn the HD 1080 footage to a standard dvd without compressing to 720p?

Just curious, loving the quality don't want to lose it.

Cheers,

Sean.

If you are making a DVD video that can be play back on set top DVD player and watch on TV, then you will have to downsize it to 720x480 for NTSC or 720x576 for PAL. Basically you have to encode the video to DVD compliant MPEG-2 format to author the DVD.

Otherwise, you can encode in HD and burn to regular data DVD that can be watched only with computer.

The third option is, of course, making an AVCHD disc: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD#AVCHD_as_a_distribution_format

Well, he was asking about standard DVDs, so it was a point needing clarification.
Because seanwin used "filesize" in close proximity to "standard DVD", I assumed that he was talking in terms of media. This is correct, a standalone DVD player will not play high definition video from a DVD disc, because DVD is nothing more than recording media, while DVD-video is a recording format that uses DVD discs as media.

I use MultiAVCHD to author AVCHD discs with great success, the only thing I did not master yet is creating nice custom menus.

That's fine, but it still needs to be made clear lest there be no misunderstandings. A lot of people read these threads, so clarity is key.

You can try this way, still burn your DVD as DVD-video so you can play the DVD on TV. But then, you can also create a folder with your HD mpeg file. So you can play the same disc on computer with the HD version of the video.
