Render Settings - Project Properties - Motion

Since I work a lot in FCP and Motion3, I thought I would ask this question here since there is no Motion forum.

I tried to locate my answer in the Motion manual but didn't see anything. In the Project Properties there is a tab for RENDER SETTINGS. I have the SAMPLES set at 8 and the SHUTTER ANGLE set at 360 degrees. What happens when I adjust the SAMPLES to a higher number? Should I keep it at 8 or move it higher.

Thanks!

I haven't played around with the samples... but shutter angle can be important.

a 360 deg shutter is like shooting 60i with a 1/60 shutter speed (shutter is always open and looks more video).

a 180 deg shutter is like shooting 24p with a 1/48 shutter speed (which is more film-like).

It's for motion blur. The shutter controls the size, while the number of samples determines the quality of the motion blur applied to moving elements in your project.

You have to enable motion blur through View > Motion Blur to see the result of the settings. Just beware that enabling it will increase your rendering times dramatically.
