Render settings for internet

Hi All,

I have never done much renders for the internet, when have its always been 320x240 mp4 which always kept it crisp and low mb.

However, I just bought a Brevis adapter and am going to start putting clips on Vimeo.

Just wondering what your ideas are on getting a larger frame but good HD quality without the excess mb for vimeo. What render settings do you use?

I film with a Sony Z1 and use Vegas Pro 8 & 9

Thanks.

That was great, thanks.

I ended up with a 166mb fil for a 4min clip. Does this size sound right or is it way too big?

Im rendering in Vegas Pro 9, 1280x720, using Sony AVC, I selected 16:9 HD Internet 25p. I checked bitrate and its at 6,000,000.

Quality is set at best.

I thought it was big to but ive never rendered HD for internet so thought it may be normal.

Any suggestions?

>bitrate and its at 6,000,000.

That's what you should aim for. It's all fine. You see, with Vimeo users can download the original file, so even if Vimeo re-encodes at 2 mbps, your users will like the extra quality if they download the original file. So yeah, what you got is fine, continue this way.

However if you use that setting for Vimeo it will not show up as HD. It will look good but not HD.

You can use mainconcept mp4 set the bit rate to 6million set resolution 1280x720 your good to go. Project setting sould be "best".

Skilled, please do not give false information. Of course and the tutorial I gave him will give him HD. It works perfectly with Vimeo, because it was tested and written against Vimeo. That tutorial is also one of the semi-official guides of Vimeo (the Vimeo guys link to it in their help pages).

SonyAVC is as capable as MainConcept in delivering HD. It's not the encoder that matters to Vimeo anyway regarding HD, but the resolution.

I have tested this many times on vimeo. (with the internet settings like you said) And every time it will show up like its HD. Wide screen ..however vimeo thinks its not and the HD button is NOT there.
I am not giving false information. However I had to see for myself again I have to report Vimeo is seeing it as HD. I tried this test 5 different times when this option first came available in Vegas..I thing it was a 8c upgrade. And I am telling you Vimeo would NOT see it in HD several months ago.

I am exporting with Sony AVC most of my videos, and I know a gazoobla lots of people who use Vegas Platinum 9 do so too. Vimeo recognizes these Sony AVC videos as HD just fine. As I said earlier, all it mattes to Vimeo to give a video the HD flag is the resolution, nothing else. Even if you use the crappiest codec out there, it will still re-encode it as HD as long as the resolution was not 4:3 and it was higher than 1279 pixels wide (both requirements need to be true).

Yes,,,.I know i its the resolution. Thats why it just didnt make since that the video would show up wide screen just like and HD with the HD option turned off every time I upload with that internet setting. It was crazy...and I think it was just a Vimeo glitch that they worked out. I was happy to see that render option in vegas...and i was very disapointed when Vimeo would not recognize it in HD. Well any way..it works great on there now. I think I will start using it.

Hey thanks you both for your input. I guess my next question would be, do I use the same settings for a hd render for youtube?
