render problems vegas 7 1080 24p project

Ok, I am completely puzzled. I have a 20 minute video in 1440 1080 24p format. I have edited a rough cut and am trying to render a high quality clip to show a few people. I tried dragging the m2t project file into a new project set at 720 480 24p and render as uncommpressed .mpeg2 with audio. This generated a file that when opened crashed my machine, although the file was only 68MB in size (it was a short test clip of the whole project). I then tried to render as and AVI with the same settings and the exact same thing happened. The BSOD error I get mentions nv4_***.dll I'm guessing a video dirver problem?

I gave up on those formats and tried MOV, that rendered ok but then took the 16:9 format and squeezed it into 4:3. I couldn't find a setting that would widescreen it in MOV. Due to the size I think MOV would be my prefered format to render in just for this rough cut. Quality should be nice but the size and non widescreen result of the render is a problem. Am I missing something silly here?

The successful way I hve rendered it has been in WMV but of course the quality is junk.

When I go to render all my dropdown options in Format have HD options but no standard render except when I go to save as a WMV.

PC I'm using is a Dell XPS 710 2.4Ghz, 4GB Ram, NVIDIA GeForcce 8600 GTS vid card, dual monitors.

The video footage was captured with CineForm Demo. Each scene in the video is nested with the m2t file of the original capture. I was told that was the best way to retain quality.

I need some help here, I just want to render a higher quality rough cut. When I go to render the final version am I going to run into more issues??

I hope I explained everything far enough in depth.

I rendered in WMV and the quality was very sub par for what the real footage looks like, that's why I'd prefer a MOV version. Not to hard on the file size and much better quality.

WMV can look excellent if encoded well. I was amazed at what I got out of it when I really tried. But David is correct. MP4/AVC is the way to go if you just want to show it on the computer.

OK maybe I need to start this all over. I have a project at 1440 1080 24p. I want to render it for preview and eventually for DVD burn. I'd like some advise on my options. Everything I have tried has caused an error of been of too low quality to preview.
Let's hear your advise.
BTW the AVC didn't work. I wanted a larger view and set the output as the 640 480 option and that errored too. Rather than guessing and trying let me hear some experienced feedback.
Also my m2t files were NeoHD trial captured and the Render for "intermediate" files won't work since I didn't purchase Cineform.

Hi,

David and Perrone are right on.

You might just use the WMV 3Mbps template with a 1.000 pixel aspect ratio. That will give you a 640x480 image, but that should be okay for a computer playback.

If you want a larger image, perhaps the 8Mbps would work for you.

Now on top of that I am still having this "dark" issue. I thought it was other monitors I previewed on not being set properly but when I took the MPEG2 file that came out nicely and put it on my editing monitor the same thing happened. That leads me to believe that it's a rendering issue. The clip comes out darker, I usually need to adjust the brightness and it also has a red tint to it. When I go back and look at the project file it looks fine. This happens with all renders no matter what format they are in.
Any ideas??

Anything you render to comes out dark with a red tint? That's nothing I've ever seen.

EDIT: Are you using the 32-bit floating point color space?

Honestly David, this project is a mess. The entire thing comes back to being shot on a Cannon in 24f. Not realizing the problems I agreed to it ... biggest mistake I've made in a while. I was told captured by Vegas and an easy edit and render, well that's sooo far from the truth.
The render in just about any format that will even play comes out about 50% dark. I've seen this mentioned a few times here and on Cow, but have yet to hear an answer.
I'm so frustrated .. I think I really need a Vegas pro to step in and figure out the problem. This is well beyond my knowledge and I am stabbing in the dark for a solution and nothing seems to be working.
I did manage to burn a dvd in DVDA and it looks "fair" but no way close to the original veg in Vegas.
I'd really love to hear from anyone with the "darkness" issue ... if you've run into it you'll know exactly what I am talking about.
32-bit floating point color space .... don't even know what that is ... so I'm guessing no?? lol

I think I know where David is going with this. So do two things:

1. Render the file in WMV.

Select about 10 seconds of the video

Select Render
Check "Render loop region only"

Select 1280x720 as the render size
Select Pixel aspect ratio 1.00
Select bitrate of 4 MBPS
Select a frame rate of 23.976

Tell us how it looks.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. The video clip looks fantastic. 725MB (rendered the entire thing after the 10 second test), but I was expecting something large.
Thanks so much! I am still curious about the darkness issue, anyone have a clue on that?
