Render problems in 24pa.

I'm shooting in 24pa, capturing at sequence preset DV NTSC 48khz -23.98, capture present DV NTSC 48 khz 2:3:3:2 pulldown removal, but still having to render when I move the clip into the timeline. Can't figure out what problem is, any suggestions appreciated. I'm in a bind timewise, so if I can't figure this out, if I just go ahead and render it then edit and output, does that hurt the quality? thanks.

Re: Render problems in 24pa.

Your clip settings and sequence settings aren't matching in some way. Double check the properties for both. Off hand they look correct but something is slightly different. Check each in detail. You may want to check your playback settings as well. Should affect rendering but may be worth checking. All this assumes there's no filtering or manipulation of the clips.

Re: Render problems in 24pa.

I might be the only weirdo with this discovery - but when I captured as you are doing, same settings, I noticed that if I had a 'end of tape' or a timecode break on the tape when capturing, this would disturb FCP to the point of thinking the footage was 29.97. Bizarre. Look in the browser and you can see the frame rate of the clip you captured - it should say 23.98. You also need sequence settings of 23.98 to match.

If all that is in place then check with the timecode thing I mentioned. Let us know.

Doesn't the FCP manual say rendering IS required if capture & sequence presets are different. If you do not change render control from the default and your on "playback settings" should you not have to render (given the capabilities)? Peter was your 24 showing up as 29.97 in your browser? And tell me I've been having to much fun with option P.
