render output option

I understood that Quicktime Animation could be the most "lossless" output of my After Effects projects. So here I've just finished my first simple After Effects project: a few credits (just type plus effects over black). The default on my After Effects is to output the credit-clips as AVI files. Lossless. Etc. These files end up being about 230 MB. But when I try to export them as Quicktime Animation (millions of colors+, etc.) the files are only about 19 MB.

Surely my AVI files are more "lossless" than the Quicktime files, because they're so much bigger? Or am I wrong about that. Maybe I'm not rendering the QT Animation properly.

Anyhow, I'm importing these files into Avid Xpress to put into the timeline.

Any advice on how to get the most lossless output from After Effects would be awesomely appreciated. Cheers.

The thing is that resolution will be decided by Avid. From AE export OMF at 2:1 or 1:1, I can't remember now if AEcan export 1:1 OMF's. Then import in Avide the files at maximum resolution, when asked. Either 1:1 or 2:1

lossless, or uncompressed?

Gosh, I didn't know there's a difference. I take lossless to mean as perfect a renditon of the original animation as possible. No loss in quality. And I take uncompressed to mean the same thing.

I just want as little aliasing and as good a quality as possible. The credits will be projected on a screen, so I would like them to look fairly decent. They look good in After Effects so far.

there can be a huge difference! I personally use uncomperssed avi, because I do not prefer QT

It seems I'm having less hassle with uncompressed avi. For some reason my QT anim files are imported as matte keys by Avid. Anyhow, the avi files import fine. They're much much bigger files, but they work.

So, any advice on how to get de-aliased lettering out of After Effects. My titles look good in After Effects, but in the Avid video window, they look a little blocky on some curves/edges. Is this normal?
