Removing Squeel

So i recorded an interview today, and stupid me, i forgot my head phones. When i got home, i imported it and realized there was a very low squeel. So my question is how do i go about removing it? I have Sound Track Pro, so if someone could give me some tips using that program, id greatly appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

Your going to need a harmonic notch filter. STP may well have one? THe problem with a Noise reduction filter is that they focus on broadband noise and usually aren't much good at hums and squeals. A hum filter might work if it will go high enough to do what you need. RogerNichols sells a filter plugin that works great but it's kind of pricey and I don't know if there's a demo. I also don't know if it will work in FCP (it's made for ProTools). I know it comes with a VST and I think STP supports VST.

I'm curious.....do you know the source of the squeal? I remember from my old cassette audio tape days that if a magnetic tape was exposed to heat -- say, from being left in a hot car -- it would pick up a squeal that was very distracting.

Don't know if knowing the source of the squeal will help you any in your attempts to eliminate it, but it might.
