removing sand in Manfrotto Head

Hi I bought at a pretty good deal a used 503 Manfrotto head with a 058 tripod. I just arrived home and I notice that there is some sand stuck in the head. What can I do to solve this? Is there a good way to clean it and remove the sand properly or the head is completely absolute?
Thanks

Mm we did some shooting on a beach and I insisted that we hired another tripod and leave mine at home. Im glad we did because by the end the whole thing was totaly full of sand. Every time you extended the legs you could hear the sand grinding up and down, and the head had bits stuck up inside the bearings.

Try and blow it out with a compressed air blowgun, but past that, its not easy to get the deeper bits out...

I brought it to a photo repair specialist (it's safer that way) and he said that he needs to open it, remove the sand and grease, put new grease lock it back in position and that's it. I don't think trying to blow off the sand will work because it's now stuck in the grease...
