Removing Echo in Post

I filmed a grand opening event where several speakers took to the podium and presented to the audience. I was unable to connect directly into the sound system that they were using, so the audio is from my AT897 condenser mic that I had attached to my camera.

I am now in post and want to reduce the amount of echo and flatten out the audio for each speaker.

How should I go about this with the available audio effects in Vegas?

You can try adding a "hiss cut" effect in audio. It's under TRACK EQ. Also, try adjusting SMOOTH/ENHANCE. I've had echo problems, and this helps, though I'm still working on how to get my audio sounding the way I want. Also, you can add VOLUME to the track if you need to.

Hope this helps.
