Click on the captured clip in your browser and then go Tools - Remove Advanced Pulldown.

Good luck,

Re: Removing advanced pulldown removal after editi

That's good, but it does not work ALL the time for some reason.

I now always try that method first.... and it works a lot of the time. I have NO reason or idea why it doesn't always work though.

NOW... if that method doesn't work for you then there is this....
The one option that works 100% of the time is to do a "reverse telecine" in Cinema Tools.... HOWEVER, I've never used your method of editing, then trying to remove it. I'm assuming your getting the "jitters" and need to remove the pulldown to get clean video.

I always just use "same" option in CT so I have no media connection issues. When you go back into FCP you will have to either change your sequence settings or create a NEW sequence and drop the OLD sequence into it.

Good Luck

FCP should only have problems if there is a timecode break or there's not enough pre-roll before the capture. In that case it won't do advanced pulldown removal since it's not consistent in the first section of the clip.

Reverse telecine in Cinema Tools isn't quite the same thing as advanced pulldown removal in FCP.

Scott, can you elaborate?

I've been using both methods, and your theory about "FCP SHOULD" hasn't been consistant in our testing. It really has no rhyme or reason.

I've used the reverse telecine footage with footage that worked with the pulldown removal in the same timeline. It appears to be exactly the same actually.

So how is it not the same thing? I can understand that HOW the software does it's thing may be different, but the end result is exactly the same.

Re: Removing advanced pulldown removal after editi

Telecine is 2:3 pulldown cadence. 24pa is actually different. It's 2:3:3:2
Do a search in Cinema Tools help for advanced pulldown. This (24pa) is handled in FCP (not Cinema Tools) directly either on capture or as a post capture step. Reverse telecine (removing 2:3 pulldown from 24p footage) is done by cinema tools, not FCP.
FCP will probably balk at trying to do advance pulldown removal from 24p.
Doing reverse telecine on advanced pulldown will be off a bit from a pure reverse telecine. It may only be noticable on fast action or if you step through frame by frame (checking for duplicate frames or interlaced frames)
Both 24p and 24pa can end up as pure 24 so you won't notice a difference between the two when both have been convered correctly. 24pa probably has a slightly higher quality on some frames since 24p has to de-interlace frames and recompress converted frames while 24pa just drops frames on the fly.

I've only ever used 24PA and have had some really good results using the rev telecine with that footage. Humm.... interesting info-

Re: Removing advanced pulldown removal after editi

If you shoot 24pa then use the removal advanced pulldown when capturing or at the least use Remove Advance pulldown after capture in FCP. If you do a reverse telecine in Cinema Tools then you're spending a lot more time and effort than you need to.
