Remove Object from lock-off shot

I imagine this is pretty easy, but I wasn't sure how to go about it. For a couple locked-off shots in my film tripod legs can be seen in-frame. It's close to the end of the frame's edge and surrounded by a simple pattern on the floor. Any advice on how to remove them would be great. Thanks.

Hi,

Depending upon how simple the pattern the floor is, it can be nothing more than cloning the floor over the legs - you can do that also with a batch process in PhotoShop, too.

How integral is the framing to your story? Can you enlarge and re-frame a bit remove the legs?

If the floor is a simple enough pattern you could duplicate the footage and mask a section of the floor. Then move the mask over the tripod! Hope that make sense.

I've done cloning in Photoshop and I think that's what I'm looking for. How do you do batch processing?

Use the clone tool in after effects.

Double click the track, then use the paint or clone tool. The clone tool has more options than in photoshop, like clone from x number of frames before, or after and you can type in coordinates instead of selecting a source area. For what you're doing this doesn't sound relevant, but it's much more powerful and easy to control than using photoshop.

Then you select how long you want the paint to last: single from, x number of frames, or constant. Sounds to me like you'd want it to be constant.

If you are going to use photoshop, make a background plate. Import that plate to AE, set it as your background layer, then mask out your tripod legs.

The question is, is there any action that moves across this area?

If so you may have to create a duplicate top layer and roto out that action as it crosses over the masked area on onto the plate.

It's kinda hard to explain by just typing.

There's a few ways you can do it, not seeing the shot, and not knowing what you're more comfortable with I can't really say what's the "best" way to do it.

Good luck, hoped that helps.
