remote start/stop controller

Hi.

I need to be able to start/stop a dvx camera from a distance. I looked at this page: http://www.dvxuser.com/articles/remote/

Why do you need a USB cable?

I only need start/stop record function. One button, on/off. I need a long cable run on about 30meters. Can i just use standard minijack 2.5 cable?

Thanks.

Why not just use the wireless remote control that came with your camera??????

edit: sorry - didn't read the "30meters" part....

looks like you could use any 3-wire cable, doesn't have to be a usb cable.
You'll probably have to re-wire a standard TRS stereo mini cable.

I've used a Radio Shack 1/8" headphone extension cable to add about 30' of distance to my Zoe zoom control for use on a jib arm. 5/32 to 1/8 adapters at both ends, and it works fine. So yes, if you could find a 30-meter 2.5mm cable, that should work.

Radio Shack also offers a remote extender device, a set of two pieces that pick up remote signals and then the second part re-sends them, most likely useless for film makers, but just in case i had to say it
