remote follow focus controler

Hello everybody.
It seems that there is no to much on the web about wireless remote follow focus units, if anybody knows something about that please share with all of us.
When shooting some action scenes using steadicam or shoulder mount it is pretty clumsy to use any other focus control exept wireles.Instead of remembering the movements of the camera and actors the focus puller can easily be concentrated to the markings on the floor and the markings on the follow focus unit wheel.

Hey Thoff,
That is a pretty little nifty Remote Follow Focus, but I think you are missing the amazing difference on the one that RedrockMicro is developing. The are developing a Remote Follow Focus for 35mm lenses. That means it has its own motor to spin the lense. Its not using the camera motors. And they estimate to have available for around $500 and release for NAB 2007. Now this is AMAZING!!!!!!!
I don't think people are realizing that there is nothing of this caliber for less than $4000. So this will open up alot of possibilities to Indi Film Makers.
I for one, really like Redrockmicro. I own their M2 and like the way they manufacture things to last. and at this price range. its just incredible.

tom, I just tried it and it worked. are you holding down the shift key to open a new window? you don't need to do that. if not copy and past into a new window.

Yes, you are right, I missed that -- largely due to the fact that 35mm adapters weren't mentioned in the OP's question. :)

Thoff- no problem, I just wanted to make it clear in case you missed it.

SomewhereinLA - actually the unit they showed at the screening only had a motor for focusing, but it was a very small motor, and when I talked to Jaime (the guy actually designing the unit) he mentioned he wanted to put a slider on the remote for other functions. Maybe even for iris and to handle a zoom lense as well. (now these were even further in development so I'm not sure if they will have that on the initial units.)

John T - how much was that Bartek unit? how do you like it. is your focus puller using the same monitor on your Steadicam?

Thanks?

Siniarch,
It was about $1700.00. We mostly set our focus with each lens and f stop. IE.. 3 ft,4, 5,6 and so forth and pull focus by eye watching your talent and est how far they are from the lens. Can be tricky. Takes a lot of practice and sometimes we miss it. Well, take two!

nice find THoff.

siniarch, did you see the RR wireless FF at the screening of "ILLEGAL"? I ask, because I am interested to know if the RR unit is quiet when rack focus performed? My motor FF unit uses a servo and it makes a bit of noise during a rack focus, and this may be a problem for a CU shot and recording audio. Now if it uses a stepper motor, it would be quiet, though not sure how the response time is to complete the focus rotation. Appreciate any feedback.

hey Christopher,
Yes I did see the RR wireless FF at the screening of "Illegal". There were a lot of people talking all over the place, and it is very hard to know if there was any noise from the motor. Hey I didn't know my FS-100 was loud until I tried recording at night in a quiet room. But if I remember correctly, they were contemplating being able to swap out the motors. Maybe they could have one that is slow, but quiet and a more noisy one but faster. I can't imagine the noise being an issue if you are booming 2ft away from subject as a CU would be.

that's a good one chirstopher. I hadn't seen that one. how do you like your's? how far can the remote control be from the camera?
