Remote audio recording?

Hello,

I'm putting together a project that combines video clips with still photos and some graphics. The person I taped in the video is now half a country away from me, and I'd like for her to do some additional narration for the portion of the project that will use still photos and graphics. (This is about three minutes of audio.)

One option would be to buy a (relatively) inexpensive digital voice recorder, send it to her, have her read her narration, have her send it back, and then upload the audio. (I'm pretty sure I can talk her through it.) If you think this is the way to go, is there a make/model you'd recommend? (Sub-$100, if possible.)

I'm not sure about other options. I'd welcome other ideas.

(Yes, I know this isn't ideal, but the R/T plane ticket to do this face to face would be pretty expensive.)

Thanks!

I don't know of anything good under $100. My first thought would be to use the edirol R9. Your idea of just having her record the narration to something is the way I would do it. You can always edit it how you want later.

Post the city she is currently at.....might get lucky and find a DVX member to do it for free.

If possible send her a copy of the video via the net and have her record via computer and send the file back to you. You may need to work on hooking up with a film maker where she lives to assist with the technical side of this.

Along those lines, have her pop into a studio in her town and record the 3 minutes. If you can keep ithe studio time under an hour, should be easy for 3 minutes of non-sync audio, you can do this for no more then $150 in most cities. High quality and still coming in around same budget you have for the recorder.

Or, you can pick up a THAT-2, connect it to your phone, and record off the phone. Not perfect, but it does give you another option. I'm using it now to record on-line training sessions for one of my clients, and it isn't wild about the phone system here, but it does work.

Assuming you're running your NLE on a computer, if your friend has access to a computer that can record to disk (most Macs do) all she needs is an inexpensive mic. Most of the time, one can select from more than one audio format, but you're almost always safe with ".wav" .

Once she has recorded it she could even email it to you.

she should rent fr2 in a rental house record on a card send the card and upload it here. Hopefully she can rent fr-2 or any other flash recorder.Or connecting rented mic to the camera and record on dv

With Wabbit's suggestion, most studios can also patch you in during the session so you can provide direct feedback to your talent, ensuring you get the recording you want.
