I'm gonna be meeting this guy tomorrow, I wonder if they ever resolved all the issues with progressive mode failing and white balance issues...

THE HORROR!!!!!!!

(good luck, looks...unique to say the least.)

Shawn, never scare me with those pics again. I had a heart attack. And yet, I still have enough umph to type here.

Does that guy have a website with info? I'm definitely curious if he succeeded and has footage to show for it. Looks like Frankenstein.

The beginning stages of this mod is really from an old thread sometime last year, but until search is re-enabled for the pre-V6 info, I can't find it.

Anyway, if I remember correctly I think they eventually stopped posting progress and pictures probably because they got tired of all the razzing for doing the mod, especially when they ran into problems I think people were being less than supportive. I for one LOVE people with the balls to try something like this, maybe I'll have them as my leads in a HERO-FEST flick!

I'll give you guys an update after chatting with them tonight, I'll see if it's functional and if so if there's any footage.

So, I met with the mod guys tonight at an open house for their new film and music production facility here in Seattle, and apparently they had to put the project on hold until the facility build out was done, but the main guy said he's going to resume the project sometime soon. It appears that all they need is a white balance ribbon from Panasonic (there's was damaged in mod process), and perhaps a few other tweaks but apparently the camera is functional but not 100% operational until they fix the WB ribbon issue. At this point there's no useful footage or additional info to share, but I'll be sure to keep everyone posted as I hear more.

Dang! Um... so what exactly does the mod do?

Here's what he posted in his original thread, which I was able to track down by his username:

"the idea was triggered by several factors:
1. I was unhappy with the performance of the leica. The build quality was very poor (seems like they improved it slightly on a 100a I had a chance to look at) and after owning a dv500 I felt the focus control and zoom was extremely unresponsive. I was in love with the accurate, repeatable, and reliable lens control of the JVC. No small crappy iris control with 1/6 stop intervals.

2. the Canon c-mount lens is faster than the DVX (past f1.4), a 7.5-90mm zoom, and came with accesory mounts for follow focus whips and has very sturdy construction.

3. Knowing I would most likely use a 35mm adapter in the future (my start at building one http://www.porterworks.com/dxarts/) I wanted the final image to go through the least amount of glass as possible.

4. I felt I could achieve a setup I would be more satisfied with given limited time and $$ (the project took 3 days and <$80)

5. I have never seen it done."
