Remember 24p?

Remember not too long ago when the main selling point on a lot of cameras was that it shot 24p? And dishing out thousands and thousands because of it?

I just think that's funny looking back at it now.

In particular, I very much remember 3 things as the holy grail everyone wanted:

24P, large sensor, interchangeable lenses, then HD was added to the mix. How many cameras have that now? 200 ....lol

So now that we have the holy grail, we have gone on to looking at pixels/bit rates/codecs/4K/raw. It never stops.

No, the far funnier thing is that when only Panasonic had it, everyone else called it a "gimmick" and "trick," and more than one predicted it was a fad which would pass.

The resolution battle seems more or less over now.
All cameras have 24p, s35 size sensors, and +13 stops of DR.
I wish the next race focuses more on how to get nicer skintones, filmic tonecurves anmd good highlight rolloff.

I thought the next step is the camera makes the movie better.

I have a trade secret protected device, involving clairvoyant cockroach brain technology (CCBT), which will 1) write the script, that is guaranteed succes. 2) pre-production plan, acquire funding, for said script. 3) direct and shoot the production. 4) perform post. 5) Make distribution deals, 6) transfer income beyond one's wildest expectations to a numbered swiss bank acount.

I'll be setting up a kickstarter project so some of the 'little' people can participate... 'gifts' will include pictures of the cockroaches wired up to the camera device, discount on streaming the film when available, the cockroach ensemble singing a 'Happy Trails' parody...

I'm fine with the current IQ. I want xlr inputs and built in ND filters.

I was a big proponent of HFR, projected and shot at 48 fps, until I saw it on the big screen. The arguments were very logical. 24 is a legacy that's not needed. It's just left over from the days of film and sync sound. But the frame rate dramatically changes the IQ and as you approach 48 fps it just gets uglier and uglier. I thought the IQ would be the same and the only change would be a lack of motion blur. But it just looks awful.

24p looks very nice. I think it's here to stay and it has nothing to do with just being a legacy of film and sync sound. It looks pretty. That's why people like it.

All the skeptics and dinosaurs…..it's a pleasure to NOT have to work with them now.
