Reliable shoot onto DVD?

I have a local organization (read: "we have no money") asking to video record a 1hr live talent show and archive on a playable DVD (as in, with a DVD player). Is there such a thing as a reliable shoot method to record on DVD? Perhaps tether the camera to a laptop via firewire and use Quicktime Pro?
I'm trying to support these guys (a worthwhile organization doing good stuff w kids and culture) but want to minimize my time investment- especially post if I can avoid it.
Any suggestions appreciated!
Thanks, Drew

No editing needed? Then go for a direct-to-DVD recorder. Sony made the VRD-MC* line of small DVD recorders. I used them to burn right from my camera to a DVD when I know I didn't need to edit. Other companies make DVD recorders that look more like DVD players. The Sonys have the advantage of being powered by 12 volts, so some sealed lead-acid batteries can power it in the field.

Never thought of that! I'm going to try my Panasonic home DVD recorder tonight! It has a fw400 input I think...
