Reliable DVD Printer

salils

I currently have an Epson R200, and it is incredibly inconsistent, I get these two flashing red lights on the top of my printer all too often, usually takes me like 20 minutes per disc to get it STARTED. Anyways looking for an affordable (under $150) CD/DVD printer for printing small quanities of ink jet DVDs (under 10 usually). Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, and it should be Mac compatible (Tiger)

Dude, quit screwing around with Epson disc splatterers. Life is too short. I use a Dymo DiscPainter to label my discs and it works quickly (600 dpi image in 1 min, 1200 dpi in 3 min) and without the hassles of Epson's temperamental printers. Search for "disc painter" in youtube for a vid of it in action. Good luck!

I have the Epson 300 and rarely have a problem with it. The Dymo that Filmwaster is referencing is almost twice the price salils is wanting to spend. Epsons are fine, you might just want to get a newer one.

Yeah, that looks like an awesome printer, maybe when I can afford it I'll consider it.

Anyways, I'm thinking it might be a software issue. I was able to print Discs fine (apart from some scuff/ink smudge marks on the first 3-4 prints) on my Epson R200 using the Windows version of Epson Print CD. Arr...Epson why do you make such crappy Mac software.......

What's the actual, real world image quality like though on the diskpainter? I've heard conflicting stories. Some say it outright sucks.

I own an R200. Yep when it goes nuts you have to get out of DVD mode and into paper mode. It will sort itself out in a minute or so. Great prints though, aside from the poor traction on the tray issue and the blinking light thing.

I own an R380. Great prints. Claria ink is very expensive though and Epson has an injuntion vs vendors selling compatible ink. Also it's prone to clogging!! Mine clogs randomly. One minute its fine.. next its clogged. Wait a week, print 3 DVD's perfectly, then on the 4th its clogged. Running a cleaning wastes a lot of ink.

So I'm thinking about a dymo diskpainter, but one ink cartridge doesn't inspire me to think it's all that as far as prints. Here's a link to the thread I started on another site I hang out at on the same subject more or less. There's info RE: the diskpainter.

I'm using a Canon Pixma MP500. Costs around 70-100 bucks I guess. Just wanted to report that it works fine. (even though software and dvd handling is outdated). Done lots of jobs with it.

Ming the print quality of the DiscPainter is excellent if the image you are using is of high quality. If you use some grainy night shot it will look grainy on the label. Also i use good quality glossy printable discs to ensure the crisp image labels I want. Epson's printers work well...when they work. I also am a tiny bit pissed that Epson just got sued for selling ink cartridges that had a chip in it that caused it to read "out of ink" even when there was plenty of ink still in it. Epson printers are cheaper because they make their money on the ink not the printers themselves. Fun Fact: most printer companies make 40-50% of their profits from ink sales.

I've used an R300 for the last 2 years, I printed over 2500 cds+ and never had any problems with it. I recently switch to a RX680 and so far so good. Quality is top and it's fast. Just make sure to print often and use the original claria ink, not 3rd party and you shouldn't have any problems with the heads cloggings etc..

None of the printers mentioned above is automated , right? You have to put the
DVD in one at a time, manually. Seems tedious to me, when most duplicators can turn out several at a time. Any low cost automated printers out there?
