Releases for Bar/Club

Hello all,
Later on tonight I am shooting footage of a band performing two songs that I will be editing for them for a Press Package and some of it might end up in the music videos that I am going to be doing for them.

At this shooting it is going to be a stationary HVX setup at the back of the bar with all the members of the band in frame. No panning tilting or zooms. They want the shot set with a little bit of the audiences top of the back of their heads in the shot. So there really shouldn't be any faces or perceivable features of anyone but the band.

What I was going to do is have the sound guy make a statement before the two songs saying something to the effect as... For the Next two songs we are going to be filming the band for their music video, By remaining in the front area of the dance floor you are consenting to having your image recorded for use by "band name" and "production company" for their use.

If I record and save the footage of that being said over the PA system will that be usable as a release?

Thank you for your input.

I thought about that, and I normally would if I was going to shoot for more then +-10 minutes. My thinking is that I wouldn't want to shy people away that didn't want to be on film, by them thinking we were filming all night. the bar is set up with the stage area on the right side, and a large bar area on the left side of the room. So by announcing on the PA, people not wanting to be filmed would just go to the other side of the room.

Thanks for you reply.

I hear that. But something else to think about is people love to be on camera or think they will see themselves on TV/Youtube. I see alot of bands advertising the fact that they are having a vid shoot, as it can draw a larger crowd....

Either way, if you're JUST shooting the backs of crowd heads, then don't worry so much about it. If you are going to get people's faces, then be sure to post a flier or two, and have the band/PA say something about it. That should obsolve you of any problems after the fact. Be sure to shoot video of the sign you post also.

Nothing, but it was not a problem. There was not anyone in the shot that was noticeable. With no lighting on the crowd they were just shadows.
