If i wanted to register a production company name, thereby making my shenanigans official, how and where would i do this?

I'm fairly unfamiliar with the concept and procedure.

any insights?

I just did this for a marketing company I am starting. In NJ all I had to do was go to my county courthouse and register the name of the company...for a fee ofcourse. Then you need to decide the type of business you need to be.. company, LLC (best of the bunch), corporation, blah blah blah. When you register your trade name they will give you info on what to do next. It can be a tedious peocess but the end result is a good one. You own your own company.

Hi stevesnj,

Can you please advice me what kind of Company(LLC, or SomeThingElse) is the best for beginners?
Is it possible to go this way:
a) Registry name, choose the type of business, do what they(when register) asked to do
b) Open an account, put some money on it
c) Do nothing during couple years...
Or I must monthly send some report, balance, etc.

On which stage I can hire some people?

You can also go online and so a search for online services that help you form your own company - using them or not is up to you, but they offer pretty nice descriptions of the different types of corporations.

I registered my company online at my state's website as an LLC.

1. Hire an attorney to give you advice on best structure (corporate, LLC, sole prop). Ask him what requirements paperwork, etc are for each type. You can get much of this info at local SBA office or similar, but doing something wrong or bad advice can cost you big. An hour with an attorney should be plenty.
2. File the paperwork yourself (or let attorney do it if his fee is fair and worth it to you..
3. Buy Insurance.
4. Buy Business Cards
4. Get clients.
