Refurbished Mac?

Has anyone ever purchased from Apple's "refurbished" section? Are these good as new? The prices are much better, but I don't know if the quality is the same. Am I better off buying new?

Thanks.

my mac pro is refurbished and not only have I had zero problems with it, but they accidentially shipped it to me with an extra gig of ram

otherwise, no difference. not that i've seen.

Hmm...I've found a refurbished Mac Pro that needs more RAM and storage. Is it simple enough to install these myself? I've done it on PCs all the time but never a Mac.

The Mac Pro is RIDICULOUSLY easy to upgrade, when it's RAM and HDDs. I'd venture to say it's the easiest computer on the planet to add stuff to (though possibly the most difficult to modify).

I bought my Powerbook G4 refurbished in 03 and it is still going strong. When I received it, it had an extra 20gb of HD and an extra 512 of RAM. I called to make sure I'd gotten the right machine and the rep told me that they try to sweeten the deal when ever they can, and since refurb's are based on supply, they can often give you those little bonuses.

seriously. i haven't added any additional RAM (too expensive for me) but adding the HDD was like eating cake. It was ridiculously easy.

Adding the SATA connector cable was a bit more difficult but still manageable in about 20 minutes
