Refurbished Apples?

Would you guys buy a certified apple refurbished computer?

I am looking to get a desktop alongside my powerbook just for more space, faster editing. I am looking at either the imac's or the mac pro towers under $2,000 and was checking out the refurbished ones wondering what the pros and cons are. Otherwise I can get brand new with a student discount. Ahhh... decisions!! Any suggestions?

Apple's refurbished products are top notch. The last Mac I bought was a refurb and it's been a workhorse for me.

The only thing you don't get with a refurb is the fancy Apple packaging. Mine shipped in a plain cardboard box.

there really aren't any cons if you are ok with the slight possibility of minor cosmetic blemishes...

in fact, I'd would go as far as a refurb is a little more reliable since they go through another round of quality control.

And there is more,

Sometimes mac that are supposed to be standard config where ordered with custom spec : Hard drive, memory, graphic card etc… and sent back to Apple.

So it happend to receive a higher configuration that the one you order…
A friend of mine order a 24' iMac and receive double ram, double Hard drive and faster processor speed.

So good luck to you !

The refurbs are fine, but isn't it about the same price with the student discount.

they tend to be slightly cheaper... however you can't customize a refurb. since most people don't qualify for edu discount, refurbs are a great option when cost is a pressing issue.

I own a 15" MBP refurb. It's great. The only trick is going to Apple's website frequently enough to find the computer with the setup you want. Their stock is constantly changing since people are always returning their computers.

Oh, and mine came in a nice Apple box. I never would've known that it wasn't new if the box didn't say "Apple Refurbished Product" on it.
