ReelStream Updates...

Hello DVX users,

We have added some more HD footage from DVX Andromeda beta testers, as well as updated the specs on Andromeda and Sculptor to better reflect the current specs of the device:

I'd like to hear any suggestions and questions you might have as to what information you would like to see on the website. We are currently working on dynamic range tests which quantify the improvement over regular DV shooting with the DVX.

Andromeda for the DVX100(P/A/B) should be for sale on our upcoming new website in 4-8 weeks.

Cheers,

Hi Juan. I was just wondering what the status is on the PC version of Sculptor HD. Will Andromeda be ready for both MAC & PC image acquisition upon first release?

Hello,

That's a good question that gets asked frequently, so i'll explain our reasoning.

The short answer is no for the capturing/USB side of sculptor, but yes for processing the raw filles. That is, we plan to release a version that can render your uncompressed raw files into your preferred image/movie format on the PC.

The reason is that while Andromeda can handle the maximum specs of the USB 2.0 standard, the truth is that all the USB host controllers out there have different maximum performance specs, but yet none of them are listed by the manufacturers.

This means that if we made a PC version, we would have to find a way to test it with numerous PC systems out there and make a list of what motherboards have a fast enough USB->drive subsystem to run Andromeda...given the large number of PC systems/motherboards/hard-disk configurations out there you can imagine why this is not practical. Furthermore it not only depends on whether your hard disk or USB alone is fast enough, but if the path from the USB to the hard disk can handle it, this can only be found out by testing.

Apple Mac systems on the other hand, all share similar USB host controller characteristics and we can and have tested all the current mac models for compatibility with recording the uncompressed stream.

However, we will add the features and make the changes that the users want. If it turns out that the #1 feature every user asks for is some sort of PC capturing capability, we will find a way to implement it.

Hope this helps,
Juan@reel-stream.com
