reel-stream

Re: reel-stream

Yeah, been keeping an eye on this for awhile. They seem forever close, but development efforts like this always take more time than expected..

Re: reel-stream

llokslike a good idea, I'd like to pick up a used dvx for this, ( as they say the warranty would be voided) it wouldn't matter how many hours you had on the heads. The samples look good now les see if they market it. Barry there looking for beta testers?

Re: reel-stream

Those 2 guys are going to make it rich, if they can deliver. Imagine getting more res from your DVX and also have the ability to go straight to disk.  If they can keep the price low then it will change the landscape of DV filmmaking.  I just contacted them requesting more info.  I'll let you know if they respond.

(EDIT) Removed hi-def reference. Not sure why I said that. Maybe I thought hi-def was the best res you could get. ???

Re: reel-stream

I don't think what these two guys are doing will turn the camera into HD. It will allow you to capture all the CCD data direct to hard disk before compression and processing. The end result will be user selectable 4:4:4 and slightly higher resolution than the camera outputs since it captures the entire CCD region.

You will have to color correct, crop or uprez/downrez to correct size, and convert to proper format since they will just be individual files. It should get some amazing results for chroma work since you have the complete chroma color depth for doing your keys..

Re: reel-stream

They have talked about HD mickeloaf. They implement a custom pixel shift if I remember correctly. Whether they will get it to work well enough I do not know.
