Reel Advice

I need some advice on putting together a reel.

I plan on dropping off a resume and a reel to a video production company in Grand Rapids, MI. They are small business, but are rather successful in local business.

When putting together my reel, what are some things to avoid? What type of information should I put in the title cards and should it go before or after the video?

Typically when I look at reels, it's pretty much a montage of of people's past projects and a song over top of it. I am really looking to demonstrate my cinematography skills.

Any advice would be appreciated

also, what would be the best way to transport this in physical form to a production company?

I am very unexperienced in dvd making, as far as idvd really.

Does dropping off a physical DVD work better than sending them your Vimeo 2010 reel? Maybe it does I'm not too sure.

I mean, DVD is only SD, whereas they can see full HD in Vimeo or YT.

btw how is Cornerstone University looking these days?

Well, in term of cutting together a reel, the best thing to do is keep it short. The reason is that it forces you to only choose the BEST of the materials that you have, and that's another key thing. Too many people have reels that go on for 3-4 minutes and they try to pad that out with mediocre materials. Remember that you're only as good as your worst shot so anything that is not up to snuff leave it out. It's not a college essay, padding does you no good at all.
