After having all my posts deleted on Reduser for coming out and stating basically that Red's products are good, but a company owning a forum to discuss about said products is a bad idea, the more convinced I am that Reduser is not a good forum for the discussion and global growth of cinematography.
We need open forms of communication to discuss cinematography technology that are open and civil and do not allow for posts to get deleted unless there is abusive threats.
The internet and the global camera nerd community should stand behind the free and open discussion about any product.
I also want to say here how much DVXUSER in particular has helped me grow from being a videography shooting weddings with a dvx100 to where I am now, a videographer shooting weddings with a red one and other things like birthday parties (I stole that joke from Mac) .
This community and especially people like MacGregor and Hunter Hampton and Art Adams and Geoff Boyle and Roger Deakins have helped me grow artistically and technically.
This is a special world we have for camera nerds - an online nerdy place we can talk about things none of our loved ones want to talk or hear about. T stops. F stops. Shutter. Frame rates.
This should be a safe place. And dvxuser is.
Now reduser, with banning and the CEO of a company calling out two camera nerd heroes - Geoff Boyle and Art Adams - in his "farewell" address - that's not good for us nerds.
We need to stand behind these figures.
Art and Geoff have help open communication to camera nerds throughout the world and have shared their technical knowledge with many. I stand by these two people completely.
I am proud to say that I asked the admins to have my reduser account deleted. I will not support an environment of hostility. That is not conducive towards the open free-flowing world of online camera nerdery. And there are only so many hours in the day.
And also, the more I think about it, the more thrilled I am that the Alexa Mini will probably completely wipe away most people from choosing the Red "Fail" aka "Non violent weapon" on their next project.
