Hi all, first post. Read a few threads here. Apologies if this is in the wrong section, wasn't quite sure where to put it.
I'm a total noob at filming/photography, and have to do it for a course at uni. Not that I don't want to though.
Anyway, I've got a Canon XM2 (borrowed from the uni, so only for the weekend), and its pretty noisy when I shoot a dark scene. This happens no matter how I make the scene dark. I can turn all the lights on and put the ND filter on, changing the Aperture or Shutter speed settings, change the AE, or just have the actual scene lit darkly (or harshly at least, I want some nice contrasts like in 'Quarantine' if anyone has seen it). No matter what I do, the film turns out noisy, both in the lighter bits and in the pitch black bits.
Am I doing something wrong? I tried googling it and all I got was a bunch of software for reducing noise post-production.. and I figure it's easier to fix it IN the camera that in the computer. Coming from an audio engineering background.. I know its much easier to fix the original noise that try and fix it 'in the mix', and I assume this is the same with filming.
Also, a possibly unrelated issue.. shooting low-light, just one of my practice shots has darkened corners. Is this a setting on the camera I've messed up, or should I be removing the cover that goes around the lens, or is it something else entirely?
Thanks in advance, and it would be much appreciated if I could get a few responses before tomorrow night (24ish hours from now) as thats when I have to start the real filming. I can post clips if necessary, but I think you know what noise is ;p
