Reds and blues with the DVX

(Hopefully I'm not treading on previously discussed ground here...)

In viewing some footage I shot recently, I noticed that certain very saturated reds and some various blues seemed to almost vibrate or pulsate (I think that's the right word) onscreen. Has anyone else run into this (it seems like it would be a common thing) and if so, how can I avoid it whether in-camera or in post?

Thanks
Nathan

Re: Reds and blues with the DVX

Well we all have noticed this i think. Oversaturated reds tend to bleed and spill and it is a mess! First thing i would do is level the chroma level in cam down couple notches. Blue tints at times can get a ***** too blotchy so keep that in mind when adjusting the picture. If in post you end with bleeding reds regardless of your in cam settings (which shouldn't really happen if you lower the chroma level) try Chroma Blur option in your local NLE.

Re: Reds and blues with the DVX

the "pulsating" reds and blues makes it sound like you have the gain turned up which will amplify the noise in the shot.

I don't think so, it sounds like the chroma level is too high, as already suggested.

I had the same problem recently, no gain, lots of lights, well-exposed and the reds were still pulsing and there was a lot of noise in some blue areas. Reducing the chroma level got rid of the problem.
