Redrock Micro 'Start Running' rig

Depends on the shooting situation. It's only as stable as the person holding it. Bracing the camera against your body will help standing still but when you walk it will transfer the walking movements. The "start running" title is a bit misleading because that kind of shooting requires a steadycam type of rig designed to separate the camera from the shooters movements.

I already have a glide cam HD2000 but wanted something a little more run n gun and something that wasn't going to make my arm go dead after 10 mins. I fully understand the concept of the RR type rig but was just wondering whether this model was worth a go seeing though its been considerably reduced in price and thought it might be a good tool to add to the arsenal.

something that wasn't going to make my arm go dead after 10 mins.

what the "start running" rig is (aside from a VERY misleading name) is a way to steady your camera AGAINST your body. its going to take nearly NO weight off your arms. it may even add some fatigue because in addition to supporting the camera weight, you'll also be pulling the rig slightly back toward your body.

not that its a bad product. im sure its great for what its intended to do. its just NOT intended to do what youre wanting.

if you want something to take weight off your hands and arms, it needs to be something that actually rests on your shoulder and is counter-weighted. and for simple rigs, i often prefer a monopod

Yes I looked at the possibility of the shoulder rest rigs but I was think something very light and portable. I would not be using this for prolonged periods of time just a quick run n gun style at a wedding where you could get a few shots then put the camera back on a tripod or rail. I'm not that into the Monopod because even though they are mobile they take a little messing around when needing to alter the height or angle of the camera. I just though with the Redrock rig I would be a little more versatile to move a get a quick shot.

youre on the right track. but you can get something just as effective for a LOT less money. ive put together several similar rigs from ikan elements pieces that work really well. especially for the price.

here is one of their simple rigs that would have the same end result as that redrock thing:

Yes that look good. The only reason I initially linked to the Redrock rig was because of the big discount they had on it. I'm in the UK so I will still have a postage cost and import tax to think of but the ikan is only a few pounds/dollars difference with the discount they have. I will have a look at more of those types though. Thanks!
