Redrock Mattebox

Does somebody know, what the weight of the new Redrock Mattebox is? (Rods included.). Is it the right item for a travel-documentarist?

Thanks for the information. I am still missing the size of the gear in the folded state for transportation. Do you know it ? I can´t find this information on Redrocks hompage?

Depends on how you build it out. The french flag on the front is big; I measure the whole kit (broken down for travel, without rails) as 16" x 8" x 5.5". There are other smaller matteboxes out there; if space is at a premium then the RR might not be what you want, you could get a much-smaller clip-on if you need something for travel.

16" x 8" x 5.5" is really a lot. Its a pity but for my purposes I have to go with a smaller one. Any suggestions?

I had the same criteria for the Red Rock "size matters" and determined it is to big to pack and travel with (although it looks like the real deal and seems to be a great price). The Vocas MB's looked nice and small and can be found here:

The front is 16"x8"?!?!

.

The french flag that folds down over the front is 16" wide. The front of the actual mattebox itself is about 11" x 7". Then the bottom tips of the side wings stick out another inch, so the actual unit (including the flag & wings) ends up taking up a total footprint of 16 x 8.
