I have a RR M2 not Encore mounted to camera lense cannot grab focus lense zoomed at max macro at max apature open ..tried all combos of mounting using the hard mount kit originally the best i got was just close but had visable vignetting ...mounted the 55mm acromat after the lense and now the edges are blurred and distorted.. Any one have a suggestion? Will getting the encore upgrade kit work?

That achromat is the problem, if Im not mistaken the hpx lens has 82mm filter thread? You would need the 72mm achromat via step down ring for better results.

What you need to do is to create more space between the camera lens and the achromat. They are to close, and that is why the picture can' get 100 sharp %.

That was at least the problem I've had with that setup.

No. The achromat -assuming its the right one, must be as close to the front element of the camera lens as possible. what is critical based on the power of your achromat is the distance between achromat to the ground glass surface.

I will add in a while the approx, distances since i'm looking for the table of it,

ok, here it is,

achromat power---distance from groundglass

4+ --------------- approx. 8 inches
7+ --------------- approx. 5 inches
10+ --------------- approx. 3 inches

I have used the 10+ with a JVC HD200 with fujinon stock lens at a distance of 2 3/4 inch.

Hope this helps.

Im not sure how admir got a sharp pic, but his info is dead wrong. Teddybear is correct, your achromat is too small. DHG makes a decent achromat in the 72mm range at an affordable price. Im using one now, and have nice edge to edge sharpness, without any vig. at all. Sometimes you will need to add a spacer between the achromat and the GG of the dof adapter.

one way to get a spacer thats "adjustable" is to stack "empty" filter rings. What I did when I was DIYing my adapters was remove the glass from 72mm filters and stack them till i got the right length.

Thanks for the reply.. I have removed all adaptor rings and spacers and set the acromat just up the lens..Still slight edge vignette but the closest so far..

then it confirms your problem. that achromat is designed for small handycams and not for the big lenses for bigger cameras, change it because it is not optimized for your camera lens.
If you continue to use that you will be forced to zoom in closer to the gg and that is a big "crop factor" on the gg image. It will also increase the grain/noise size in your image degrading the final image you will have.

Even my DIY adapters used 72mm diameter achromats. No vignette and very minimal distortion at the very corners.

There are only two key elements/ parts in a good 35 adapter.
1. Groundglass quality
2. achromat power and quality.

Housing and mounts are secondary but also essential.

Thanks again..I was thinling of getting the RR 72mm HD achromat ..Will this be the answer to the problem and will it work and mount on the RR micro 2 non encore..RR lit says its for microx flip or encore models i have neither....

as long as you have the necessary step down/step up rings, it should work. From the housing of the adapter, do you have the idea how to connect the 72mm thread to it?

That was going to be my next question Mounting the acrhromat to the M2 i have a 72mm to 55mm coupler but i dont think it treads on the M2

The problem was solved with the purhase of 72mm acromat with 1
spacing tube ...Perfect image edge to edge no vignetting..The 72mm comes with mounting hardware that allows 55mm to 72mm male to male thread connect to m2
