Redletter Media's FULL Star Trek 09 Review

Hollywood is not a democracy.

I can't express how deeply I wish more people in the general audience would internalize this.

It's fun seeing a Plinkett review that doesn't totally trash its subject. Just for variety.

I love the Plinkett reviews of the Star Wars prequels because they somehow say exactly why I hated the prequels when I couldn't ever say it so eloquently.

This one does the same thing with a movie that I didn't hate, but rather enjoyed on one level while being a little disappointed on another level. (Although I do disagree with him on the TNG episode "Parallels" being "schlock." :) )

Man, if I could only tap into my innermost feelings the way Plinkett does, I could be an Internet sensation. :D

This movie was so stupid I had to go watch Transformers...2 just to restore the braincells.

His review is spot on on just about all points, though I think he's far too easy on them.

Just watched the whole thing. His statistic that 96 percent of Hollywood releases in the last few years were some kind of remake (counting sequels, reboots, adaptations) just about made me want to hang myself...What a depressing stat.

Don't. I'm sure it's pretty accurate, but even before this wave of remakes and reboots started a few years ago, most films were either adaptations or sequels.

Adaptations are a good thing. You take a 300 page novel and shorten it to a 90 minute film, and you'll use the best parts of the story only (or at least, you should).
That means you have way more story than is on the screen and you can make a richer screenplay because of it than if you just wrote a 90 minute spec.

That's why most Best Film Oscar winners are adaptations. I remember hearing a statistic about this in film school (I studied screenwriting) and the amount of films that come out each year that are adaptations are ridicoulusly high.
Way more than sequels.

no it's mostly remakes, reboots and prequels and sequels and comic book adaptations.

not so many novels if any.
