Red Walls!!! I hate Red Wall!!!

I'm shooting a promo for a youth center. All is good except their main room is painted bright red.

We all know how red is crappy on DV. But is there anything I can do to make it look a tad bit better?

Turn down the chroma a bunch and then bring everything but the reds back up in post? Either that or shoot normally and then selectively turn down the red?

If you're using Vegas:

A free download for the 6cc plugin which allows you to really fine tune your colors. You can bring down the red level with it.

If you're not using Vegas, see if your NLE will allow you to view a mask in the tcolor correction options. Try to isolate just the walls. Just try to make sure you don't take the red tones out of anyone's face. I think you'll be happy with the results.

Another possibility: If you have control of the lighting, perhaps it would help to keep your subjects away from the walls and light just the subjects.

Between the DVX settings and your NLE, you should be able to minimize the red effect.

Bright red, eh? Are they trying to piss these kids off or something? Maybe you could do them a favor and let them know that red walls are agitating. There are colors out there that don't inspire riots.
