RED/Vegas/AE

I'll be shooting my next feature on RED this summer, so I'm trying to figure out a workflow now. Thus far, I'm able to import a straight cut only Vegas timeline into AE for finishing, but I don't like how it's done. AE creates a new "track" (not sure if that's the correct term) for each "cut" in Vegas. I like that I have access to to each clip individually, but thinking ahead to a full blown feature with over a 1000 cuts, that's going to be a mess of over 1000 cuts Would I better off correcting in Vegas so a scene matches, then rendering out each scene for grading in AE? Also, I've been using the Rebel CC plugin and I love it, except that if I want to do a preset, I have to save one for each fx item individually. Is there anything else free out there that is more like colorista, as far as a UI standpoint?

Also-
I'm trying to render a test I did in AE, but it keeps failing at zero frames. Nothing renders. Help?

Thanks in advance!

Personally I think it's an advantage that it creates a single layer for each shot, in AE you could then select all layers of a scene and precompose them to have all shots of this scene grouped in one layer. You could also group/precompose those scenes to larger parts again, AE has pretty good tools and scripts to organize huge projects. You'd save a lot of time and space not rendering out from Vegas.
How do you export the Vegas timeline to AE btw, I haven't heard of that yet?

That can have many different reasons and all kinds of solutions :)
what's the resolution of the original footage, are you rendering to a codec or uncompressed?

Thanks for the idea, I'm still very new to AE (only two days) and didn't know that could be done.
To get Vegas into AE, I just save my Vegas project as .AAF Basically it's just an EDL as far as I know.

The original footage I'm bringing into AE is uncompressed 4096x1920.

So I've found success with rendering using Adobe Media Encoder. So far it seems to be working without issues. I'll try the new composition idea and see how that works. Thanks!
