RED SCARLET video tutorials?

I need to learn the ins and outs of the Scarlet and I been looking for online tutorials and can't find anything worthwhile. There are tons of great ones for the Epic (and I know the two are supposed to be kind of similar in functionality) but not much for the Scarlet.

Anybody know any solid vids on Vimeo and/or YouTube?

Thanks!

Matt

The best thing to do it just to get your hands on one. Or an Epic. They SHOULD be very similar in UI and operating procedure (save for knowing the frame rates and the other slight differences)

A local rental house will probably have the Epic if you need to get your hands on it for a shoot.

What exactly do you need to know? I was an AC on an Epic feature in January so I may be able to answer your question.

Reiterating/confirming a bit of what you and JPM have said - the operation and interface is identical between the Scarlet and the Epic (having worked with both). The only differences (besides the cosmetic) are the available framerates and compression ratios for a given resolution. The only time the cosmetic differences come into play are with Red's tactical cage system. 3rd party systems (at least the ones I know) aren't affected due to attaching in a different way.

Thanks for the replies guys! Essentially, I'm shooting on one this weekend and I won't get my hands on one till the day I'm on set with it hah. I just need to know the basics essentially like how to set up the look and all that.

Well, If you're using the 5" touchscreen, you basically just tap on the options and dial it in. Besides the obvious options up top, you can adjust audio input levels by tapping the level meters in the lower right, you can prompt a shutdown by tapping the power percentage/voltage icon, bring up the media menu by tapping the media percentage icon, and bring up display tools by tapping the histogram. If you're using the side handle, it works similarly except with scrolling/buttons involved. Haven't used the redmote yet, so can't comment on that one.

There are additional "look" options in the menus (like saturation, flut, etc), but I would encourage against adjusting those in camera, as they can cause errors in exposure decisions.

The other quick tip is that long-pressing the options along the top of the screen (FPS, Resolution, WB, ISO) brings up a more in-depth prompt for inputing exact values (i.e. 47fps vs 48, or adjusting Tint vs just WB).

Hope that's somewhat helpful. I'd be happy to answer any more questions
