Red One MX Direct To Camera Pre Amps or External Recorder?

So heres the deal, I will be getting some Red One MX Cameras and I am wondering how to get the best quality audio either via plugging the microphone direct into the Red One MX 48v phantom powered XLR spot(via adapter of course), or buying something for external recording such as a Edioral R-44, I would like to spend as little as possible on this, but I do want good audio quality, I usually film and edit in 24 bit which is what I love about the red one it has that option of 24 bit 48khz, but I haven't used it before so I am wondering how good are the preamps, and how high quality the audio is from the Red One MX and if there are any other things I should know about using the mic direct into the mx, obviously it will use up more power but we are covered there we will have plenty of batteries and things of that nature!

So I guess really the question is direct into the Red One MX or use an external recorder, and which one if so?

The RED's have awful audio, and it got even worse with the Epic and Scarlet. No professional mixer would even consider using the RED's audio... other than for a scratch/sync track.
Then there's the fan issue.

Your audio is just as important, if not more important, than your picture. Audiences will forgive a bad image, but not bad sound.

So, that being said...never ever use the a camera's built in mic pre's. EVER. Camera companies make cameras, not audio recorders. The audio end of any camera is usually an afterthought (accept for maybe the new ARRI camera they showed at IBC). If one is willing to throw down lots of cash on cameras, why should audio be done as cheaply as possible?

If one is willing to spend a lot on cameras, they should be willing to spend a lot on audio equipment, or don't buy any audio equipment and hire a professional at a good rate that has the equipment ($100 per day is not a good rate). That being said, if you are going to buy something, then something from Sound Devices or Zaxcom will work great. Their price to performance ration can't be beat.
