Excerpt:

RED announced that the company teamed up with Adobe, Hewlett Packard and NVIDIA to release the "uber liquid cooled HP RED Z820 workstations." That’s right, a Windows 7 based workstation. To add a worm to the bitten apple fans pride, the systems will be sold through "HP professional resellers such as ProMax and TEKSERVE." These names may not mean a lot to the standard Windows user, but the announcement left remaining Apple fans in a state of shock, since these "HP professional resellers" were previously known as premium Apple solution vendors.

Red hasn't given up on Apple. Both Jim and Jarred has expressed their love of Apple products, but also their appointment in Apples silence. But unlike Apple, companies like HP and Adobe are willing to actually work with Red and professionals to develop power house software and hardware. Just because Apple hasn't put out new hardware doesn't mean Red has given up on them or can't move ahead developing powerhouse workstations with another.

Yea that "gives up on Apple" garbage isn't true at all. I poured through the HP thread on reduser yesterday and the comments by Jarred regarding their stance on Apple were respectful. They've hardly given up.

"Gives up" as in gives up trying to partner on a workstation or specific technology integration together? You guys are reading into the title of the article a little too much.

Well the article was titled what it was to draw "clicks" lol. The statement "RED gives up on Apple" wasn't phrased that way for any other reason...I would have a hard time believing otherwise. Ah well, whatever.

I'm fairly certain Red is still open to working with Apple if Apple decides to open up. So in any sense I don't think Red "gave up", but rather Apple is still quite stubborn:-P

Right, so they gave up on Apple and hoping they'd be able to work something out with them, and teamed up with the other guys.

Dumb title.

I was shooting yesterday in L.A. and my assistant and I walked into little cafe t get a breakfast sandwich and a coffee. There were about 9 people in the Cafe enjoying their coffee's. I told my assistant (out loud), "THis is why you might wanna buy Apple stock". Everyone in there was using an Apple laptop. Everyone! The job was a near walk so we went back in the afternoon for another coffee. Different faces this time. Again, everyone had an Apple laptop. The place is a hangout for local artist, writers, and musicians. I didn't see a SINGLE PC based computer there all day...

Sure, if you want to build a workhorse, you can make a PC based machine that will suit your needs. I don't think Apple will get mad at you.

So Christopher, should we infer Apple is a nationalwide stock runner? : D

Because if you'd enter in an european Cafe as for instance, but add it asian or wherever else you want outside US, and then you'd risk to say to your assistant (out loud) substantially the opposite (E ;-)

First, LA is notoriously bad for "group think". Second, I guarantee you none of them was editing native Red Raw 4K files or rendering out heavy motion graphics in AE, so your point is moot.

Thats because the other folks, along with the rest of the 90+ percent of the world, are getting real work done on PCs and can't be bothered to lounge around a coffee shop with the shiny new toys their parents bought them.

Anyway, irrelevant comments aside, this is a pretty interesting development between these 4 companies. I'd love to see what else HP, Adobe, and Nvidia come up with.

Also, is there any other camera manufacturer that has enough draw to warrant a workstation partnership?

Today's Intel announcement may reveal what we can expect from the 2013 Macpro update. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/06/18/intel_mic_xeon_phi_cray/
Red partnered with HP, that is true, but they will not neglect the mac camp of users. Its just too big of a userbase. It would be good, however, to Apple establish a closer communication between them and Red. Its a shame two boundaries pushing US companies cannot work together to really push the industry forward...

Well I think any computer company would be willing partner up with any major camera company. Think about it, its easy for HP to pop in a few cards that they don't even have to manufacture and slap a couple red stickers on the front and double the price. It's practically free money/publicity for HP especially with how popular RED is getting. But You can't tell me that if Sony (well not Sony because they can make their own computers) but if Canon or Panasonic or even someone like Arri called up and asked them to make them a computer that they would say no.

I think this is great news! Apple needs to be pulled down on it's high horse and beaten until it realizes it actually needs to make worthy products and not live of off the fame they possess. And I'm a Mac user since 92', so don't start a Mac vs PC war with me. :D

HP did not just slap on some stickers. They have been working with RED and Adobe on this for awhile. Managed to talk with reps from all three last week at the Adobe roadshow and they seem pretty dang excited about this venture. I am too. That machine is worth every bit of $10k, don't kid yourself.
