Red Epic X now open for orders for Non Red One owners

Thanks Kegan! I can't wait to get it. As soon as I do, I will definitely post some videos over here, like I did when I got my HVX! So, so excited right now :)

I hate ordering things from Red. One of the worst places to buy from as everything is backordered and despite being sold directly by the manufacturer, they have no idea when the items you ordered will be delivered. Things that are listed as "In Stock" can take weeks to ship despite them already charging your card for them. Been dealing with this for about 18 months with Red One stuff, and now my Scarlet order (Canon Aluminum mount that was ordered within 45 minutes of the site going live) is 2 weeks past the official start of shipping and my bomb squad rep still has no idea when my camera will ship.

I love shooting Red and will defend the image quality and workflow, but buying Red is a bag of hurt.

Well, I see it this way (probably because I'm in a small place were I have to wait for anything I import). When I purchased my Suzuki ( hatchback ) I had to wait 3 months for the car. I looked into getting a mini cooper and for it to have the color I wanted and a manual transmission, I had to wait 6 months. Now I'm getting a "Ferrari " equivalent camera. Having 2 months to wait for it doesn't sound that much. If I was rich I could get a epic m, but I'm not so having to wait to get to buy a mass produced Ferrari ( which is still sort of handmade and heavily qc'd) seems fair. I think for the Scarlet one should have a similar mindset. Buying a Red is like buying from a high end, custom built manufacturer, not a Chrysler or a Toyota. In the end, you get what you pay (and wait!) for :) (in my humble opinion, of course.)

Yes, all true -- but do note the part where it says "start" of shipping: the implication was always that it would start shipping out units; not that everyone who ordered Canon mount would be getting their Scarlet-X shipped that day. A minor thing that makes all the difference. Yours will probably be shipping early next year or late this one. :-)

I know that. The point is that despite being one of the first few non-Event goers, I haven't seen an allocation email and my rep can't even give an estimate of when I'll get mine. Worse, even things that are listed as in stock can take weeks to ship.

Red needs to do some inventory management modernization.

They are certainly aware of it, and have made a few posts on their forum addressing the issue. Here's an example.

6 months ago Jim brought in the best Manufacturing God arguably on the planet... Kent.
He brought Oakley to a level where China and Japan would literally get on a plane and fly to the O to learn efficiency in manufacturing.
His legend has been realized.. in just 6 months Kent and his team have hit production numbers we couldn't even of dreamed a year ago.. and he is just getting started. - Jarred Land

So the way I see it - logistics have been a weak link for them. They are aware of it. And they are fixing it. I believe Jarred also expects an "everything out of backorder" date sometime in Q1 2012 (I don't have time to look for that quote).

Wow, finally decided on the epic eh? awesome.

Hehe Yes Timur :) One hell of a jump, but I like to challenge myself. Go big or go bust, this time, for me ! I hope you have some time for my PM's when I get this beast :)

Season's Greetings to all over here at dvxuser! May 2012 be a year of good health and great, positive and fullfiling experiences to all :)
