Now, I know that I could have posted in the filmmaking section of the site, but I figured I'd get more varied answers here. I just recieved my business cards today and i want to go out and get distributing to promote auditions for a feature film I'm working on.

Yes, I could use mandyfilms.com or craigslist, but I want to primarily focus on students because that's a lot of what my script calls for. I want to be able to meet with these students, talk with them and let them know a little about myself and the project. It seems too impersonal to do via the internet and I have set aside some time for meeting with potential actors. I only got about 250 cards printed and the website is still going through construction, but I'd like to know if any of you have had experience with going out and searching for talent.

Keep in mind that most colleges and universities have closed for the year. I know that a couple actual film schools - Toronto Film School, being one of them is still open; but I don't want to go downtown just for that one place. If anyone knows any places I could try while I'm down there for the day, that'd be great. I want to get distributing these cards and getting the word out!

Thanks a lot,

Kegan

You could try contacting theater professors at colleges around you. They probably have an idea where to start and could possibly suggest a few people to meet with. Even in the summer, the professors should be somewhat available.

Okay, so I've found some acting academy's in Toronto and I'm considering calling them to find out if I'll be able to drop in sometime and leave business cards or speak with any actors that may be there. Anyone have any experiece with this working well? Still considering options - thanks Horse for the suggestion too.

Do you primarily want students because of their age? If your looking for younger talent, there are some high schools that focus heavily on acting. If thats the case, your just in time. School's just finishing and if any of them are heading towards post secondary acting schools, they'll jump at the chance to work over the summer. Just a thought.
Also, make sure to look at schools like Ryerson or York to see if they have summer acting classes. Chances are that they do, so you've got a few more doors you can knock on.

Are you going to cast the first ten people you come across?

I don't see why the internet is so impersonal when you'll meet people you never would have otherwise. Imagine you want a nerdy guy who never leaves his dorm. Where are you going to run into him but on the internet!

That's a great idea about high schools that focus on acting. I've never really thought of that to be quite honest. Yes, it is because of their age and it'll be good some students will want some experience over the summer.

I'll give Ryerson and York a call in the morning to find out about summer classes. No, I won't be casting the first ten people I come across, but it'd be nice to get out and about to physically look for talent as well. You are right though, in saying that I shouldn't discount the internet as a great resource.

So I ended up using mandy.com and am getting a HUGE, unexpected response. I've got a whole bunch of actors/actresses ready to audition and the number keeps growing. Anyone have any places they reccomend for holding auditions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Kegan
