recovering data from a reformated hard drive.

I lost a drive last summer, and I did extensive research on this. I didn't find any free programs.

The one I ended up buying is called File Scavenger from QueTek http://www.quetek.com/
It's an excellent buy. In addition, you can download a free trial which will let you see which files can be recovered. You just have to pay to actually recover them.

I've heard of data recovery for deleted files but not heard a peep anywhere on file recovery from a formatted drive?...good luck!

Browsed and found claims that it is possible! no free software found, lots of trial versions but I'm not sure if they would do much. I got trialware to recover data and it went through all the steps except actual recovery, for that I would have to buy software.

The one I recommended does recover from a reformatted drive. Not only do they claim it, but I have done it. I reformatted my drive after it died (it was a 250gb, and 100gb worth of sectors went bad). I had to reformat because the partition wasn't being recognized in Windows any more. After I got the computer to see a valid partition again after reformatting, I ran the prog, and it got all the stuff I needed. The only stuff I lost was the footage for a client. I still had all the project files, so all I had to do was upload again.

for some weird reason, your reply wasn't there when I posted or I wouldn't have bothered seeing as how you claim to have overcome the problem:thumbsup: Anyway...It's handy information to know and I hope to hell I never need it.

will the free trial allow me to recover or do i have to buy it?
Im trying to recover video files so its going to be about 66gig's of memory.

When you delete a file, it isn't deleted until that section of memory is overwritten.

I've used file scavenger also, and it recovered all the files i needed from a hard drive that crashed. it's an awesome program.

It's not entirely free. In the free version, it will show you all the files it finds on your hd. You have to pay $40-$45 to activate the program so you can recover them. You can get it at www.quetek.com

I really doubt that you'll find a totally free one that can do what you want.
