recovering CF CARD files from a shoot

AC pulled the card before it fully dismounted (as we were moving in a hurry to another location before finishing the file dump). SO we never backed up the footage and now the CF card (used with Canon 7D Mark II) isn't readable by PC or Mac.

Anyone can recommend the first line of defense? What recovery software we can use?

While it has been eon since I had to recover from a corrupted CF card, I have had to recover other disks. The URL gives a CF recovery procedure for the "Remo" software. I use Macs but the app is available for Windows as well.

In most cases of corruption it is the initial blocks or portions of the directory, and not the data, except perhaps the portion of the file write that 'didn't happen'.

These days since I use Linux for most of my day job, I'd take the CF device, and make a 'image' copy of the entire device. Then use the recovery tools to extract what they can. Some tools can work on the image of the corrupted device rather than the device itself.

Tried to use the software but before saving to disk it asked to be purchased - to "show" recovered files is easy to actually recover the files is difficult - so no marks for REMO software from me as i have no idea if it actually works.

Have you tried putting the card back in the camera and playing it/checking that the files are still intact, then try reading it with a reader on a computer again? Had a similar incident with C300 a few years ago and fortunately when I put the card back in the camera, the footage was still there.
