Recording to FS-100

I have just begun to dig into my new HVX200 and the FS-100 so please forgive my newness. I am trying to set the 1394 Control on the HVX to External and the 1394 CMD SEL to REC-P as specified in my documentation. The menu selections, however, are blue and I am unable to change them. I am sure there is a simple answer as to why this is happening. Can anyone help me? Do you have to have a P2 card inserted in the HVX in order to record to the FS-100?

I am a visual effects artist/designer and recently purchased the camera and other gear to work on a personal project. I am completely new to actually operating a camera!

Many Thanks in advance!

Earlier versions supported every recording mode but Native. 3.0 only adds QT format and Native format, that's all. The old myths still live...

There is a simple answer, probably that you need to change from 720/24pN to 720/24p. And no you don't have to have a card to be able to record to the FS-100. But you CANNOT use 720pN modes. I'd bet that's why your menus are disabled.

Good point Barry! I get emails from lots of folks with the same FS-100 Newbie problem. Trying to set the HVX into Native mode to record Native mode to the FS. Doesn't work that way. You still have to set the HVX in a non-Native mode, but the FS to a Native mode.

Orders for the FS-100 DVD now being taken, ships next week!

I just uploaded my FS100 to 3.0 and yes thats exactly what I did. set it to 720/24pn. Nothing then I loaded up the new manual and read it and low and behold there it was., n black and white 720/24p. Viola..... it works

Thanks for the responses! I actually woke up in the a.m. with a fresh mind and figured out that I had the wrong recording mode selected as many of you have pointed out! SO much to learn! Have to get the book and DVD...wish I could go to the bootcamp.
