Recording Setup Ideas???

Hey all.

Need to record a sizable amount of wild dialogue (monologues, news segments, etc). Want to record digitally and then export the files as wav or mp3 files.
I have a really good shotgun mic/mount which we be using to record. The mic has an XLR out.

My questions are these:

1)What is the best way for us to record digitally with such a mic setup? Is there some kind of adapter that I could buy to go from XLR down to the standard 1/4" RCA mic input plug in my computer? I have a PC that has no fire-wire input. It does have USB inputs. Any suggestions as far as the hardware goes? We could also link the XLR cable to our DVX100A, but again, we have no fire-wire input for the computer...

2)Is there an audio recording/editing software program that is relatively cheap for this type of thing? I have a PC with Windows XP. Obviously want to stay out of the realm of things like ProTools.

Thanks for your suggestions!

You can always go hit up Radio Shack for all sorts of adapters that will allow you to hook up a quality microphone up to your computer. You may need to get a mixer and run the mic through that then run the mixer into the Audio IN port on your computer. Or just right the mic straight into the computer.

If push came to a shove, then you could record your audio, narration, etc. right in the camera. I work for a News Station and I have the reporters lay their audio right in my camera when we are working out on the street.
