Hi, I have a sort of unique audio situation and was wondering if anyone had any advice. I am filming (and doing the audio recording) for a week-long summer camp where kids learn to play instruments and form rock bands. This camp takes place in an elementary school, and usually there are 4-5 kids playing instruments at the same time, in a small classroom. (They play electric guitar, bass, and drums. Guitar and bass uses amps.)
I did the recording last year, using a shot gun mic plugged into the XLR input on the DVX for one channel, and the onboard mic for the other. After a few days of recording, the camera was still able to record sound, however when I listened to current or recorded audio on my headphones it was crackly and seemed to go in and out. When the tape was played back through a different deck, the audio was fine. I'm not sure if it was the uneven audio levels and over-modulation that caused this damage, or if it was just being around the amps.
I don't want to make this mistake again and damage my camera. I have access to more mics this time including: a Shure VP64AL (omnidirectional), Rode NTG-2 shotgun mic, and a lav Tram TR-50. I'll be using the DVX 100B. Does anyone know if any (combination) of these mics would work well? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
