Here's my set-up: Dual 867 G4 <--> NEW Edirol FA-66 <--> Minidisc Player/Recorder
That's how the chain looks. The MD is connected via the Optical I/O on the FA-66 soundcard. I AM getting a signal to the soundcard and speakers yet there isn't a signal going to the recording software (Soundtrack, Audacity) HERE'S THE PROBLEM: In Soundtrack or any Audio App no matter what setting I try to make there doesn't seem to be a signal coming in to the computer. I DO HOWEVER get a signal when I'm not trying to get signal IN through the OPTICAL IN meaning if I just use a Microphone. It is just when I try to get a signal to Soundtrack, either Optical or Analog via the FA-66 it doesn't seem to 'hear' it.
Am I missing something in my preferences? I have made all the right System Preferences switches I needed to make to get this card to Input and Output sound. I just can't seem to RECORD let alone get a signal.
Any solutions?

Turns out (old) Soundtrack does not do SPDIF IN or any signal or that sort. So I will be upgrading to Soundtrack Pro soon.
