Recording in Quicktime vs. P2

Hi all, what is the difference in recording in Quicktime vs. P2 on the Firestore FS 100? Is there a difference in quality, or is it just the format of the clip? Do you need to import it differently into Final Cut Pro? Thanks a million. DM

no quality difference. you just drag the quicktime clips into fcp. easy as that. its a great workflow if you're 100% mac. but if you ever need to go to PC those clips will not work since there is no quicktime dvcproHD codec for PC.

Using Quicktime is SO much easier and you can easily view clips unlike with the P2 stuff.

Utilizing Quicktime recording to the Firestore does streamline use with a Mac because of FCP's want of quicktimes. I don't know if it maintains all the metadata though.

If you find yourself needing to edit on a PC, you can use DVCPROhd Quicktimes on a PC by using a program like DVFilm Decoder or Encoder Pro. Decoder allows for playback of DVCPROHD and DVCPRO50 quicktime movies on a PC. Encoder Pro does the same, but allows you to also encode them. There are demo's at the website and a 25% off sale right now until Xmas.

Best,
Andy
