Recording in a highly reverberant room

Any advice on how I can eliminate reverb on a speaker after the recording has been made?

I recorded my subject with a sennheiser lav mic and regardless I still pick up all the room noise. I watch DIY renovation shows on tv all the time and I am wondering how they get good micing without all the reverb in new empty rooms, foyers etc or are they using some plugin in post to clean it up?

I tried using a noise gate but it isn't effective as I want and/or it cuts off the trails of the audio too. Maybe there is some technique I am aware of?

Any suggestions are welcome!

While I haven't tried this plug-in method directly, you can use SPL Transient Designer. But I agree, UNVEIL does an excellent job.

I just gave waves ns1 a go. Seemed to work better than transient designer at full tilt. The vocals were recorded in a large church sanctuary with a lav mic right on the collarbone. NS1 seemed to have less gating artifacts and left the tails on words. I would really like to try unveil! :)
